Dr. Vlasits speaks at special event at UC Berkeley

Dr. Vlasits spoke at the special event “Neuroscience through the generations: a dialogue among four generations of the same neuro-family tree” together with Nobel Prize winner and centenarian Dr. Torsten Wiesel alongside Dr. Carla Shatz and Dr. Marla Feller. The panel was a reflection on how neuroscience research has changed throughout the decades. The group was a direct lineage of scientists: Dr. Wiesel trained Dr. Shatz, Dr. Shatz trained Dr. Feller, and Dr. Feller trained Dr. Vlasits!

One of the big takeaways from the event was that it’s more vital than ever to support basic neurobiology research with no direct health benefits. Dr. Wiesel reflected on his prize-winning research. He said that he never did his research with the goal to cure a disease or understand health. His work has turned out to have major influences on how we treat childhood eye disorders.
